Makes that often come up
In a 2023 survey, consumer group Which? named Worcester Bosch and Vaillant gas boilers as Best Buys and highlighted Ideal as a lower-cost Best Buy. That's useful background, but it isn't a verdict on every model those brands make, or a price list.
When you get quotes, compare the exact model on each one and ask why it was chosen for your home. The brands here are examples only; ask us which boilers we'd suggest for your job.
- Worcester Bosch: scored well in that Which? survey.
- Vaillant: rated highly by engineers Which? spoke to.
- Ideal: picked out as a more affordable option in the same survey.
Price versus length of cover
Higher-spec boilers tend to come with longer manufacturer warranties. At S.W Gas Works, the boilers we fit carry 5, 7 or 10 years of cover depending on the model.
If you plan to stay in your home for a long time, a longer warranty can be worth paying a little more for. If budget matters most, a 5 or 7 year warranty on a reliable boiler is still solid cover.
Read the warranty conditions
Most warranties need the boiler registering after installation and servicing every year by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Ask who registers it, what's covered and what the servicing conditions are, and get it in writing.
Questions to ask your installer
A useful quote starts with your existing system and how your household uses heating and hot water. Ask:
- Why is this boiler type and size right for my home?
- What exactly is included in the price?
- How long is the warranty, and who registers it?
- How long will the installation take?
- Will you fit a system filter and clean the system?
